Jealousy for a Brand New Morning

June 8, 2017

Greetings, Citizens of the Universe!

We’ve made it. After the darkness comes the light. Winter, with its lip-splitting blizzards, torturing SAD sufferers and anyone else who relates to “California Dreamin'” by the Mamas and the Papas.

However, there was something to look forward to come March. In fact, despite the chaos and burning dumpster fires happening at the year’s beginning, there was a reason to look at the bright side: Morning Musume’s 20th anniversary. In late January–the 28th to be exact, the 20th anniversary of the release of Morning Coffee–a new MV was unvieled: Morning Misoshiru, a miso-themed remake to the classic track announced earlier in the month for the sake of a commercial. (For more on that, look to the commemorative 200th post!)

There’s been a lot of build-up and hype in regards to this release, between the aforementioned miso-themed remake and the surprise collaboration unit Sashining Musume (which came with its own… set upon its announcement). (Even then, they’re essentially rarities as they were only available on the “Limited Edition SP” version of the single. If you want anything that is remotely akin to the songs, your best bet is probably the Type-A version of AKB48’s Thumbnail album, featuring the “AKB48” version of the collab song. The “Morning Musume” version was on the aforementioned “Limited Edition.”)

All that aside, it’s a time of celebration because Morning Musume is now 20 years old! *snf* These idol groups grow up so fast. *shikushiku* I’m not crying!

Anyway… Let’s celebrate the envy-inducing BRAND NEW MORNING by digging into Morning Musume #62, featuring the first appearance of 13th Gen members Kaga Kaede and Yokoyama Reina! (On that note…. I never did make a post about them….)

The Rain is Falling

May 5, 2017

I hate days like this
When it rains and rains
And rains and rains

Greetings, Citizens of the Universe,

Despite the cheer of the 200th Post, it is with sadness that this has to be Post #201 instead of a Country Girls review.

Why? The last full week of April ended in a surreal manner. While watching the Hello! Pro Kenshuusei lottery, I thought about Up Up Girls. Then again, it may be an imprint that I caught the odd tweet about them. Hours later, past 7pm, I got a notification on my phone about Kame’s post about their announcement earlier that day: Sengoku Minami and Sato Ayano announce their graduation.

“Am I psychic or something?!” I cried in my head. It was just so strange, knowing I thought about Sengoku Minami and her long tenure, reminded of her in the names of the current trainees.

However, despite the uncomfortably warm day (it was the first fully sunny and warm day in what felt like weeks. It’s been a very rainy and cool/cold April for me), it was set to worsen. Sure, rain was in the forecast, but… not at all like what’s to come.

Let’s Have Morning Coffee Together for 20+ Years

May 4, 2017

Greetings, Citizens of the Universe!

Long time no see, yes? Well, it’s been a long break, but there’s a reason for this: the previous post was #199, meaning that two years after the 100th Post, we’ve reached 200 posts on Magic Morning Meteora!

Since February, a poll/survey/what have you was held to determine the topic for this landmark post, which was open until April 24 sometime after 11:00 UTC. The results were announced the following Friday on the 25th with Morning Coffee and its iterations.

This is rather appropriate because Morning Musume is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with their major debut song as part of the festivities. (That’s not getting into the fact the blog is celebrating its 10th anniversary, having been established during Momusu’s 10th.)

So let’s dig into Magic Morning Meteora #200 and kill two birds with one stone!
