Next Is You…kanyan

Greetings and happy New Year, Citizens of the Universe

There’s still some unfinished business from 2018 so let’s get this one out of the way:

“Juice=Juice 宮崎由加からのお知らせ”

As soon as I saw the title, a feeling of apprehension crawled into me.

As soon as I saw that it was just her and began the standard announcement greeting, I mentally prepared myself further.

As soon as she used “I, Miyazaki Yuka” and “Juice=Juice and Hello! Project” in the same sentence, the feeling grew.

Once she said the dreaded S word, a different feeling emerged. The tension was released, but it was replaced with… something. It wasn’t sadness or anger or excitement (though that last one certainly was part of it).

“WHO CALLED IT!?” I exclaimed. “WHO FREAKING CALLED IT?!” (The answer was a group of fans too vast to name.)

I immediately went to the H!P Fans and H!P Chat Discord servers (which I recommend you guys join) and they were already talking about it. (Mind you, I found out almost 45 minutes after the video went up so virtually the entire Internet had a head start.)

I took to Twitter (“This is too rich!”) and while things seemed quiet (at least on the English-speaking side), the news began to spread. At the very least, I can say that at least for me, Yukanyan was a trending topic in Twitter (for a while).

Laughing like a madwoman at this latest string of announcements… I think my old age as an idol fan/wota is setting in, me finding the idea of such announcements exciting. (It’s somewhat less frustrating than that Morning Musume Germany controversy. I ended up cancelling a few reviews because of it….)

Now that the initial rush has faded, the feeling had plateaued. Mind you, Miyazaki Yuka will graduate at the end of the spring tour. Yanagawa Nanami’s graduation would be a done deal by then, it being a special joint live with Country Girls held in March. (I wonder how far they planned this, especially since this is over a month since Yanamin announced her graduation and Hello! Project is in the process of planning Christmas and Year-End events…. Add in the fact they went with the Fukuda Kanon approach and did a video announcement, rather than a strictly written one.)

Either way, the dreaded Graduation Wave has arrived in full force. Cowabunga.

Weeks pass since the initial announcement and the pain has been dullened. Discussion of the age gap aside (which lasted for a few days to a week… it all seemed like a blur), things were relatively uneventful.

Either way, I hope for Yukanyan’s success in the years to come, especially since Hello! Project’s Wonderful Hearts are on Instagram now (Morning Musume, ANGERME, Juice=Juice, Country Girls, Kobushi and Tsubaki Factory, BEYOOOOONDS).

…Sorry I’m suddenly ending this, but I couldn’t think of any way to. Seems to be a bit of a thing lately. (At least the Morning Musume Germany fiasco is dunzo…. Rather, was done.)

Until next time,
Magi-Kat

P.S. Oh yeah, Magi-Kat Creates 2.0 is up and running so feel free to check it out!
