Right About Now, the Funk Soul Sisters: They’ve Come a Long Way, Baby

Greetings, Citizens of the Universe.

Originally, this was going to be a double post with the Country Girls’ debut video, but #MagicalGirlMarch came to my attention and sparked a dilemma: continue with the double header or dedicate a separate post to this video? Well, as the mental dialogue was built up, the ambiguity was turn down by the decision to make this a separate post in honor of the month and the theme of the day (“singing idol”). So, without further ado, allow me to praise this like I should.

Why the Fatboy Slim-inspired title? Well, when I first saw the translated title, the following was the first thing I thought of:

However, as most H!P fans know, the song is actually like this:

The PV

Beginning with a simple background with seated Musume, we then find the limelight on the spotlighted Musume for those lines (namely Oda and Riho for now). One thing that is immediately noticeable is that the footage of the Musume are interversed with footage of the Pretty Cures. This quiet builds up into a colorful storm of lights upon the chorus, featuring our singing idols dancing and smiling (with more and more Cures taking the stage on the anime end).

Around the second verse/chorus, we are joined by troupe of young girls, certainly targeting the core audience of the PreCure franchise. (Will any of them take the Riho route into H!P if they aren’t already in? Who knows?)

The Song

Ima Koko Kara boasts a gentle, but bombastic feel that just oozes with happiness. Musically, it’s a lot like the much-acclaimed Toki wo Koe Sora wo Koe and Egao no Kimi wa Taiyou sa, complete with the optimism of the latter.

One is inclined to write this off as repetitive with UFA trading a “we’re number one, so why try harder?” attitude. However, the increase in promotional activities and tie-ins are showing a particular assertiveness on the part of UFA.

In Conclusion

While the other a-sides’ PVs have yet to arrive (as of this writing), I can say that I have high hopes regarding Morning Musume ’15 and this tie-in. (This should come to no surprise if you’ve read my thoughts on the announcement.)

The single arrives on April 15th.

Happy #MagicalGirlMarch from Magic Morning Meteora! If you wanna join in, here the list of themes…

…and follow the following instructions:

Praise you all,

P.S. A Friendly Reminder
The Berryz Memorial Survey submission period ends soon (between 3/26-4/8). Did you make yourself heard yet?
