MSS: The Results Show – Act III

Act IAct IIAct IIIAct IVAct V

Greetings, Magical Meteorites and other Citizens of the Universe!

Welcome to Act III of the Michishige Sayumemorial Survey: The Results Show. Last week, we examined the early phases of the long tenure. Now, we’re going to head even deeper into the history with The Takahashi-Niigaki Years.

Why did I meld the two together? Well, frankly, Niigaki Risa’s leadership reign (while far longer than Yaguchi and Fujimoto’s combined) was a bit too short to get any meaningful data from. Plus, she meant to graduate alongside her friend Takahashi Ai so at least, it’s in that respect.

What was considered the high point of the Takahashi Years (termed the “Platinum era” by this fan) was that the girls could sing well in stable voices, had great personalities and fun to match (had fun during concerts and seemed to have fun together). The girls all benefitted from Takahashi’s caring leadership, which translated into the atmosphere. Niigaki’s years was marked by Morning Musume going more “mainstream” with their songs and the promotion being turned up a notch.

The low point was said to be the stagnant sales and the promotional troubles. The Niigaki years was especially marred by Pyoko Pyoko Ultra being the 2nd lowest single. (If I am to interject here, I have a feeling that there are fans out there who didn’t answer who feel that the single itself was a low point. But I digress…)

Something that could’ve been changed about this era was the promotion and how AiRisa should’ve graduated earlier, allowing more time for auditions.
