Smile, Darn Ya, Smile!

Make life worthwhile and “Smile, Darn Ya, Smile” for S/mileage’s 3rd Gen!

Smile, darn ya, smile
You know this old world is a great world after all
Smile, darn ya, smile
And right away watch “Lady Luck” pay you a call…

What a way to end a week! We began the transitional week between September and October with the unveiling of fresh faces into the Morningverse and end it with not only the impending concert (unless your week starts on a Sunday like here in Eagleland), but also the unveiling of S/mileage’s third generation!

Firstly, some background. As The Casual Hello!Project Fan, Tokyo Girls Update, J-Pop Idols, Ice Cream & My Jiggly, Iroppoi Twilight Game, and countless others have reported upon, it was announced a few weeks ago that S/mileage would receive a third generation and a name change. The unveiling of the former was to take place on October 4th with the new name being decided among public suggestions (similar to how Lovendor gained its name).

Well, that day has come and gone (especially since it’s right off the heels of the 12th Gen announcement) and to once again paraphrase Bray Wyatt,

“They’re here.”

*blows out lantern*

Let’s meet the new “S/mileys”!

Mizuki Murota

  • Date of Birth: 1998/06/12 (16 years old)
  • Origin: Chiba Prefecture
  • Blood Type: AB
  • Height: 153cm
  • Hobby: Dancing
  • Skills: Dance, pantomime
  • H!P Kenshuusei Generation: 15th (joined on 1st March 2012 with former member Okamura Rise).
  • Nickname: Murotan

Murota auditioned to be in the 2nd Generation, but failed. She also auditioned for Morning Musume’s 11th Geneation, but failed. She is also the oldest newbie S/miley at age 16.

Maho Aikawa

  • Date of Birth: 1999/03/26 (15 years old)
  • Origin: Kanagawa Prefecture
  • Blood Type: A
  • Height: 163cm
  • Hobby: Eating
  • Skills: Classical ballet
  • H!P Kenshuusei Generation: 21st (joined on 1st April 2014 alongside Takemura Miu and Saito Kana)
  • Nicknames: Aiai

She was a Kenshuusei for only five months, making her debut one of the quickest in the program (after at least Okada Yui, who was only an egg for months; there’s a sliiiight debate about the others).

Rikako Sasaki

  • Date of Birth: 2001/05/28 (13 years old)
  • Origin: Miyagi Prefecture
  • Blood Type: A
  • Height: 154cm
  • Hobby: Collecting picture books of children (see below), sport
  • Skills: Dance, running
  • H!P Kenshuusei Generation: 18th (joined on 1st March 2013).
  • Nicknames: Rikako, Rikako-tan, Ricchan

This idol almost has a fairytale feel to her, due to her story: her family in Sendai lost their home to the 2011 Touhoku Disaster and her father suggested she enter SCK Girls to cheer herself up. She later became a Kenshuusei and the rest is history. Will she have a happily ever after during her time on S/mileage? Only time will tell. (To be the top idol she dreams of being, she has to beat her rival: Murota Mizuki.)

While the group won’t be S/mileage for long (name suggestions being taken until the end of the month), I have a message for the 3rd Gen:

Life is really only what you make it
Stand right up and show them you can take it
Make life worthwhile
And smile, darn ya, smile!

Now, if you don’t want to read me on a tangent, skip to See also.

On an unrelated note, can some of you do me a favor and pingback to and/or (better yet) comment on Idolminded? I’m sick of seeing nothing but Magi-Kat present “Morning Meteora” on the Recent Comments. The extra exposure is nice, but the main reason I started commenting on there was because I was re-reading the Idol Thoughts a while ago and one was a lament about the lack of engagement on the site itself (rather Ray feeling disengaged from the community itself). Granted, it primarily exists to showcase content, but still. (Then again, everyone was probably busy with… other ventures and whatnot.)

Shutting up now. (For a blogger with a Magical Girl-inspired “persona,” I do act more like a Witch at times. Then again, aren’t Witches― *clobbered by Madoka fans*)

  1. This is in no way meant to sound rude, please don’t take it as such.

Rikako’s hobby is not collecting picture books. The profile on the Hello! Project website say she collects “kobito dukan” goods (falling in line with her previously naming them as her favorite characters).

This is a (Google) mistranslation that’s been spreading, probably in parts to Up Front Link (unfortunately) using it on Facebook.
